The August meeting is around the corner and it starts an exciting new year for the Charlotte Knitting Guild! We’ve heard your wishes loud and clear and our August meeting will start to reflect that.
With a new year comes new responsibilities, not the least of which is dues. Jane Johnson, our treasurer, will be collecting dues for the 2007-2008 year. Dues are $25 and payable with cash or check to “Charlotte Knitting Guild”. If you are unable to attend and would prefer to mail your check, you can mail it in as well. Please e-mail cltknittingguild AT turtlegirl76 DOT com if you need the mailing address.
Date: August 7th 2007
Topic: Guild Charity Knitting Projects/Mitered Squares
The August meeting will be an introduction to our “Sweet Dreams” service project for Thompson Child & Family Focus. We will feature different techniques over the next few months so that we can learn, knit, and give. This month’s square for the blankets will be a mitered square. This new service project does not mean that we will no longer be doing the bears, this is simply another way that the Guild would like to show its dedication to the community.
Please bring a ball of machine washable and dryable worsted weight yarn (such as Encore Worsted by Plymouth acrylic/wool). Bring US size 8-9 needles or a size needle that knits up 4 ½ to 5 stitches per inch for you. The Guild does have a stash of yarn available for your use.
Thompson Child & Family Focus has been providing services to children and families in North Carolina for more than a century, since its founding by the Episcopal Church in 1886. The St. Peter’s Lane campus in Charlotte is a comprehensive residential treatment center for 24 children ages six through 14, most of whom have emotional and behavioral disorders stemming from a history of abuse and neglect. Thompson also operates a foster care program and a child development center in a disadvantaged area near uptown Charlotte. More than 300 children are provided with hope, healing and education each year through its various programs.
If you have any questions in regards to the meeting, please feel free to e-mail me at cltknittingguild AT turtlegirl76 DOT com. I will be out of town from Saturday August 4th until Wednesday August 8th but will happily do my best to reply to your questions before or after then. You can also reach me at prostiturtle AT gmail DOT com as I can reach that when away from home.
Thank you all, and we hope to see you Tuesday!
